These pictures are from the debut of the Fill-in-the-Blank-o-nator on June 2, 2007. The Man in Gray record release party at Union Hall, Brooklyn, was a lot of fun and reeeeally rockin'.
Man in Gray was awesome and asked me to sing with them on on of there last songs of the evening with the new instrument.
Also that night, Screaming Females rocked the rock back to the stone age. Their record release show will be at The Parlor on June 22nd.
O it was so good. I must make more... I must show them to the world.

Pictures Doth Not Do Justice
There are no words that can describe the feeling that came over me when this little monster was debuted in Brooklyn, NY on June 2, 2007. I have been working on this over the past month and it is finally here to change the face of music... forever.
While it does not have an official name yet, (there will be many different names for it used throughout this post; i.e:) The Kick-Assonator is the most awesome thing imaginable in the mind of a musician. Part delay pedal, part keyboard, part vocorder, part noise maker, part smile generator, part theremin, part overdrive pedal, part chorus, part god, etc...
On one side of The Awesomeanator,
there are two body contacts,
a high-cut filter knob,
a delay frequency knob,
the crazy switch,
and a perma-pause on switch.
On the other side, The Greaternator has
a tempa-sert on switch,
photo-there on switch,
the delayed-delay-fuzz switch,
a delay sustain knob,
an overdrive knob,
and two body contacts.
The back of The Sweetenerator features
a bypass switch,
a 1/4 inch output,
and a 1/4 inch input.
To top of The Colinator, there is
a photoresistor,
and a resistor keyboard.
There was a lot of planning and preparation that went into The Delayerator. It all started with the "My Maker" guitar, which has not been featured on the blog yet. After creating "My Maker," there were a series of toy guitars purchased through various outlets. One of them was the radical rhythm turned "HERO" (featured earlier in the blog) and another, what was once a Barbie Guitar, by accident and with a stroke of luck, transformed over(22)night(s) into the most amazing musical instrument/supplementer ever. The Supplementerator is the most awesome piece to come out of All Over the Where yet, and who knows where it will lead.
Here are some pictures of its guts:
The new delay petal/instrument was unleashed during one of the last songs
played by Man in Gray during their record release party. MiG was kind enough
to invite me to sing and play along with them. (I thought i would just end up
debuting it on the streets of New York and probably get arrested for terrorism
or something.)
All Over the Where will be releasing the first wave of the new invention over the
summer. Six limited edition, customized, Real-Name-a-Lators!
Audio samples, as well as video demonstrations, pictures of the performance, and hopefully video of the performance will be posted shortly.

effects petals
many many apologies for the month plus without a post and many many more thanks if you are still reading this. the blog is back on active status starting now, with a post on some recent effects petals (i know) me and colin have made.
the first is a voice changing toy kit that i modded and added a whole bunch of stuff to so now it you feed it sound and it spits out harsh dirty noise. different combinations of switches create different effects which you can then destroy with the duel pitch knobs, body contacts, and the photo cell. i installed an internal mic and speaker so it can be used alone, with just an input or just an output. its also first time i used a on/off led and a by pass switch, slowly making my way towards vague notions of "quality" and craftsmanship. the internals, however, are madness and i fear if i have open it up again the whole thing will explode.
a nice lil features layout
the housing is an old vhs tape case i got from a movie store when they used to sell those things. i forget if the vhs was a documentary on disasters of the 20th century or a documentary on sea creatures.
true sign of an unprofessional - messy wires
there will be audio samples once me and colin figure out how to turn cassette tapes in to computers

ten more days
sorry about the lack of posts, trying to finish the marathon of papers and finals that these last ten days of school has become. jacki posted some really great photos of the alchemy installation, so check out her blog to see that and many many more beautiful photographs.
also, check out www.manderinorange.com/mgsa to learn about many an interesting thing (in that totally crappy morbid kinda of way) that goes on behind closed doors in the administrative hallway at mason gross.

the dust set alls with more two come
after living in the gallery from sunday to wednesday, the show is installed and looks great. its open from 10 to 4 mon - friday at 33 livingston avenue. there has been a really great positive response from everyone and it has really been wonderful in fighting off the postpartum depression one gets after they finish a HUGE project. and now after having an awesome few days of resting, talking, absorbing, i am very excited for what the future holds. mainly after i push through these last few academic classes and graduate, this summer is going to be massive. there are so many amazing people in town this year and i feel a renaissance or a flourishing of sorts is about to happen. an explosion of driven creative people wanting to do things and affect their surroundings. truly exciting and inspiring.
so i have no good photos of the show yet, but for now here are some bad photos i took.

for the immediate future check out file freakout at the fire in philadelphia on april 28th for an an all night show of electronic and chiptune music and crazy visuals by no carrier and myself. for that show i am going to be mixing duel etch-a-skletches and trying to wire them to themselves so they self oscillate and glitch each other. If i can work out the technical aspects i will also try to use this magic little plug and play arcade game robert mermet gave me. when i put half dead rechargeable batteries in it, the entire game glitches out but is still playable! a true holy grail of interactive glitchness. also another gallery show for the interdisciplinary dance lab i am in is opening on may 9th at the mason gross galleries. for that we will be experimenting with reifying media environments (thanks michael rees!) and reinterpreting the scene from memory. we will then film the actions and what not in this little set, paint it all white and project the scene back on top of it. i have to work out a lot of technical details but i think it will be a very fun and hopefully interesting looking project. ok, enough for now, more later.

the panic
<------------up date with the quick ness------------>
hands-circuit-done
this is the back of the mess of wires
these circuits are controlled by
copper plates which will have
designs like this etched into them creating an interface of body contacts to manipulate the audio
and by wired to the etch-a-skletch (see previous post) via a mutilated sega game catridge manipulate video as well
above the hands the video will be a constellation made up of tiny speakers that have been on our fridge for a very long time
they will make sounds once we figure out the what and the how
this is a scrawled diagram note thing

awe day oh
doubble trippple - see previous post
radio burner - me and colin built radio transmitters for free at a work shop run by Red76 and Neighborhood Public Radio (photos and info coming soon) and then we tuned 2 key boards to the same station and found that they gate, modulate, and distort each other in incredible waves.

double triple gated oscillators
Taking much inspiration from Peter Vogel and schematics from Nicolas Collins book I built a pretty chaotic sounding mess of wire.
The Hex Schmitt Trigger IC allows you to make 6 simple oscillators on one chip, and when you wire 2 or more outputs together through diodes they start to interact and distort each others signal. I tired to base my design my off of images of yantras but after the first few components were soldered I realized this was not going to be a work of any sort of refinement, skill, or craftsmanship. Its extremely fragile, unstable, and sounds like a hell where the evil electronic appliances from The Brave Little Toaster go when they die.
I originally aimed to make it a self contained device with speakers integrated into the device but the little crappy toy speakers I found couldn't handle the extremely high and low frequency's the thing produced, so I had to add outputs.
audio samples coming soon

Palmistry, the secrets thereof disclosed, or a familiar easy, and new method, whereby to iudge of the most general accidents of mans life...
...from the lines of the hand : withal its dimensions and significations. Also many perticulars added, discovering the safety and danger of women in child-bed. VVith some choice of observations of phisiognomy, and the moles of the body. As also that most useful piece of astrology (long since promised) concerning elections for every particular occasion, now plainly manifested from rational principles of art. The second time imprinted. Englished from Latin and much inlarged by the author, Richard Saunders, author of the former book of chyromancy and phisiognomy.
Cascading gated oscillators depicting chiromancy diagrams for the divination of fortune and the planets power and influence of the lives of men women and children. Metoposcopic signification drawn from electrical schematics for the interpretation of dreams, futures, and personality via the interaction of ones eyes and face and moles with Venus (copper) and Saturn (lead). The biophysical energy nexus of the body will interact with strange machines to create bio-electrical feedback emanating from sonic generative devices arranged in accordance with natural and artificial astrologie. Promised to please and delight men women and children from all across the land.
pretty much that's where I'm at right now
reading a lot of ridiculous Victorian literature about chiromancy and astrologie and some cool books about chakras
started making the gated oscillator prototypes while waiting for a huge shipment of components to arrive. Have many many (too) many ideas for this thesis show. Hopefully the main 3 three devices will be done by next week and I can start on the more specific logistic problems of presentation, installation, and power. If I can figure out a way to plug the installation into the wall, I may or may not need a donation from Duracell to power the whole thing for one weeks time. Have 3 possible solutions so hopefully one of them work.
